History of the review

Právny obzor is the
oldest review in the field of legal science in Slovakia and also one of the
oldest law review in whole region of Central Europe. The review is being
published continuously since 1917.
Institute of State and Law of
Slovak Academy of Sciences is the publisher of the review since 1955.
It's more than a hundred
year's existence is significant in several aspects. The review is the mirror of the
development of the law, jurisprudence and legal thinking for a period of one
century. Právny obzor had recorded legal developments during the times,
which was favorable for the democratic development of the law and jurisprudence,
as well as in the totalitarian era, which deformed the law and law thinking.
However, it is remarkable, that despite the totalitarianism and isolation from
European legal thinking and its development, the review Právny obzor is
the testimony, that the elements of continuity with European legal thinking has
always been kept.
Nowadays Právny obzor is
the valuable historical document, which continuously, throughout the period of
one century, had recorded the development in the field of jurisprudence and
legal practice in different historical periods till the present day. It is a
comprehensive historical document of the development of legal thinking and legal
education. Právny obzor has deserved the credit for creation and
recording of the positive values for jurisprudence, legal terminology and legal
culture in Slovakia.
