The Czechoslovak State University in Bratislava and, along with it, the Faculty of Law were established by Act no. 375/1919 Coll. et seq. On Monday, 24 October 1921, at 09:00 a.m., instruction at this Faculty was launched with an opening speech of the rector Augustín Ráth. Six professors inscribed themselves once and for all in the history of the faculty as its founders: Karel Laštovka (administrative law), Augustín Ráth (civil law), Otakar Sommer (Roman law), Emil Svoboda (civil law), Bohuš Tomsa (legal philosophy and later international public law) and Jan Vážný (Roman law). On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of foundation of the Legal Faculty of Comenius University, we draw attention to the life and work of the founders in relation to their work at this Faculty. Further in the article we mention some of the memorable, pedagogical and scientific and organisational merits of these Faculty members.
